Optimal Transmit Power and Flying Location for UAV Covert Wireless Communications

This paper jointly optimizes the flying location and wireless communication transmit power for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) conducting covert operations. is motivated by application scenarios such as military ground surveillance from airborne platforms, where it vital a UAV’s signal transmission to be undetectable those within region. Specifically, we maximize quality legitimate receiver, who also ground-user but outside region, under specific constraints on covertness, maximum power, physical related required quality. We provide explicit solution optimization problem one of most practical constraint combinations. For other combinations, determine feasible regions flight, that can then searched establish optimal location. In many cases, 2-dimensional achieved 1-dimensional search. discuss two heuristic approaches UAV placement, show in some cases they are able achieve close optimal, significant gains employing our developed solutions.
